Chili’s like many local and chain restaurants offered a free Veteran’s Day meal to veterans. It’s supposed to be a simple promotion to honor military service; unfortunately for Chili’s in Cedar Hill it turned out to be an insult and accusations of a local veteran faking his service.
Protesters gathered outside the restaurant U.S. Army veteran Ernest Walker, says a manager took back his meal.
Walker tells CBS, it started when he was seated at a table with his service dog, when an elderly customer approached him about his service, before the restaurant manager confronted him.
“And he said, ‘Sir, we have guests that say that you are not a military veteran.’ I said, ‘excuse me?’” Walker said
Walker reportedly provided his military identification along with discharge papers he brought, just in case it was required for receiving the meal. He also provided his service dog’s certification, after being accused of also not actually having a real service animal.
